As the winter tennis season begins to wind down, four Knowle Hill ladies recently took the opportunity to enjoy one last hit, and it turned out to be more eventful than expected.

On a gloriously sunny Monday (April 7th), Amanda Innes, Debbie Morriss, Linda Roach, and Sue White made their way to Wraysbury Tennis Club to take part in an end-of-season social tournament. The event was part of a new initiative among local clubs to run friendly, informal matches — aimed at players who might not usually get the chance to take part in competitive league play. These socials are all about enjoyment, building confidence, and connecting with others in the local tennis community.

The welcome from Wraysbury and the other clubs couldn't have been warmer. With sunshine overhead and racquets in hand, our KH ladies enjoyed a series of relaxed but spirited matches. To their slight embarrassment (but our great pride!), they found themselves finishing the day at the top of the leaderboard, medals in hand and smiles all around.

More than the result, though, it was the camaraderie and atmosphere that stood out. Meeting players from nearby clubs — including Ascot, Bagshot, Foxhills, Weybridge, The Lensbury, and Ashford, was a real highlight, and the day was a great reminder of the joys of friendly sport.

Following such a positive experience, the team has now joined the Summer Ladies’ Social League, a gentle and welcoming format of seven matches, running from June through August, played on Monday afternoons both home and away.

Ladies of Knowle Hill, if you’re free on Monday afternoons and fancy joining in, we’d love to have you involved.

Each match day consists of two pairs per team, one match each, and (of course) refreshments afterwards.

If you’re interested in getting involved or just want to know more, please get in touch with debbiemorriss@hotmail.com we’d love to hear from you.

Here’s to more sunny days, and more Knowle Hill Tennis stories.
